The Journey Begins – almost
Thanks for joining me!
Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
How does the saying go, ‘The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry’ (adapted from Robert Burns) or for a more modern approach, (Mike Tyson’s) ‘Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face’ is equally as appropriate.
I had intended to retire early this year (2019), buy an RV and hit the road, blog on my travels and enjoy life at my pace. I had visions of being a modern nomad, pulling up at a beach somewhere, stopping long enough to enjoy the location before moving onto the next idyllic spot, ultimate freedom of the road.
What I hadn’t accounted for was that between me and the beaches was something that completely torpedoed my RV ‘freedom dream’, RV/Camping Parks. I soon discovered it cost almost as much to stay on a ‘lot’ with a hookup as it did in an actual hotel.
Then to add insult to injury (literally) I broke my prosthetic hip. It has taken a few months to recover this time as the revision surgery was pretty intensive, but as I write this I am virtually back to ‘normal’ and looking forward to my full retirement at the end of this year. I’ve already started started planning a few trips for 2020 and in the meantime I’m working on this website to share my journey’s so far and get in ‘shape’ for the one’s to come.
Well obviously I didn’t get very far into my vacation (see other posts) and for the last six months I’ve been stuck at home, but renovating my apartment has at least keep me busy. After completing my kitchen remodel I finally decided it was time to re-visit the camper van idea.
I bought a van and have already started to build it out for travel. Let’s see how that goes! Stay tuned.
Today was the day! February 28th, 2020 is the start of that full time adventure.
Yes indeed! It’s finally arrived and I’m looking forward to seeing what new adventures I can get up to in the coming months. Watch this space!
